What is Computer Science?
Computer Scientist utilize algorithms, data structures, software architectures, and low/high level languages (such as Assembly and C/C++) to accomplish information
transfer and transformation and computational processes as they apply to computer systems and networks. They possess the technical knowledge and skills
necessary to specify, evaluate, and manage computer system design; to provide technical guidance in applications ranging from data processing to
embedded systems; to analyze and design methodologies appropriate for hardware, software, and firmware; and apply problem solving through modern
computer equipment and research techniques.
What do Computer Scientists do in the Army?
Some Computer Scientist teach and conduct research at USMA and Army Research Centers while others pursue operational assignments in all branches of the
Army. A number of these officers gravitate to functional areas, like Telecommunications Systems Engineering (FA24) and Systems Automation (FA53), and
facilitate communications worldwide. Army Cyber (ARCYBER) and US Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) are also recruiting new talent from this field.
What kinds of Master's Degrees predominate in the field?
Computer Science (CS)
What kinds of professionals study in a typical Computer Science program?
Most Computer Science students receive their MS en-route to a PhD. Those who receive a terminal master`s typically take on software engineering
jobs for companies like Bloomberg, CISCO, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and many others.
